Avtex L185DR - Overview
The Avtex L185DR 12 volt TV/DVD Combi is one of the latest generation of "Ultra Slim" HD Ready sets designed and manufactured by Avtex specifically for use in a Boat, Caravan or Motorhome operating from a 12volt leisure battery or mains hook up.
Avtex L185DR - Description
The Avtex L185DR was the first Avtex model with an " Ultra Slim " cabinet to be mounted on a pedestal. The use of the pedestal allows the L185DR to be used vertically compared to the older model W193DR using a rear mounted leg that meant it allways had to lean backwards slightly. The new approach gives a better picture when the TV is located relatively high compared to your seating position as in many new Caravans and Motorhomes.
The other key improvements over the W193DR that it replaced are lighter weight and lower power consumption. Traditionally sets of this size have used approx 3.25A-3.5A on 12 volts. We have measured this set with an input voltage of 12.5v (approx half charged battery) at 1.9A. This makes the Avtex L185DR ideal for those who like to wild camp and rally as well of those who use mains hook up.
The L185DR has been designed and manufactured from the ground up to be used in a boat, caravan or motorhome. It has superior quality components and excellent build quality to cope with the increased vibration and harshness encountered on todays roads. It is also safe to use with variable input voltages and can even work in a 24v truck or truck based vehicle like horseboxes. Common throughout the Avtex range is the unique AQT (Avtex Quick Tune) system. This is a one button tuning facility that aids simple stress free set up when you arrive at your holiday destination. Something that the Avtex L185DR has that also aids its use in the field is " Target Region Tuning ". This is a new specification introduced because of technical difficulties with earlier Digital Tick Approved Televisions and it allows you to select which transmitter you want to tune into when camping in between transmitters. Older and less specified TV sets can struggle to lock on to the correct transmitter and receive all available stations.
The Avtex L185DR being built to such a high standard also has easier to use software than some competitors and most importantly with a premium product is the stunning performance. The L185DR has the top quality (A+) TV screen where most competitors at this size even premium brand domestic TV sets use screens at least one grade lower. This means considerably better viewing angles (most of us sit either side of our Caravans or Motorhomes looking at an acute angle), significantly better colour rendition and contrast. Watching on a summers evening with high levels of ambient light are when the biggest differences can be seen. One of the other key differences with Avtex TV's over the competition is superior sound reproduction. If you are a discerning purchaser used to to a high quality TV in your lounge then you will be impressed with the standard definition picture and amazed at the High Definition reproduction when using an external source such as HD Satellite or HD Camcorder. There are two HDMI sockets enabling two HD sources to be connected at the same time.
The L185DR has two tuners, a Digital DVB-T one suitable for watching FREEVIEW and the Continental equivalent, plus a conventional Multi-standard tuner making it suitable for use throughout Europe on both the new and old transmission systems. You can pause/record live TV from the Digital (FREEVIEW) tuner to an external pen drive/usb hdd (not included) via the USB socket. This is the only source that can be recorded and supports Hard Drives up to 250Gb in size. There are also scart and two HDMI sockets to facilitate the watching of external equipment like Blueray and HD Satellite.
To the right hand edge there is a built-in DVD drive for watching films and can also be used to play Audio CD's and CD-ROM's.

Please note that the latest generation of TV's are significantly slimmer than previous models. If you intend to mount your L185DR on a VESA wall bracket please ensure that you use bolts of an appropriate length as using bolts that are too long may damage the TV. We can supply short bolts if required, please contact us.
Avtex L185DR - Connecting to 12v circuit
The Avtex L185DR is supplied with a 12v lead terminated in a cigar type plug. The cigar plug houses a glass fuse to protect the TV. If you should need to replace the fuse this can be done by carefully rotating the end of the plug. This plug should not be removed as your TV will not have the protection of the fuse and the warranty will be invalidated. If your vehicle has a different type of socket you should purchase an adapter either from us or your local caravan dealer. Details of our adapters can be found in the accessories section.
When connecting the L185DR TV you should follow the same safety princple as connecting your hook up lead, when setting up connect the TV end first, wall socket end second. When packing away disconnect the wall socket end first, TV end second. It is also important to completely turn the TV off with the main ON/OFF switch situated on the bottom panel rather than just turning to standby as if the main switch is left "ON" when you next connect the TV there will be a surge of power that may blow the fuse. Whilst the L185DR only uses a small amount of power in standby, turning the main switch "OFF" will also save your valuable battery power when rallying / wild camping.
